Fall has arrived, and along with the changing of the leaves we are welcoming the arrival of National Dental Hygiene Month (NDHM). This October, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) along with other outstanding preventive organizations, passionate dental hygienist professionals and health-focused businesses such as 3M ESPE are placing emphasis on the importance of preventive oral health care.

We’re shining the spotlight on preserving healthy mouths all month, because of the huge impact it plays in the lives of all of us. Children, adults and our aging parents have the ability to play an important part in their oral health care to prevent cavities, periodontal disease, gum recession and a long list of other oral ailments through daily brushing, flossing and regular visits with our dental hygienists and dentists.

The California Dental Hygienists’ Association (CDHA) is leveraging NDHM to promote the importance of making oral health a priority for baby boomers, seniors and caregivers.

“Aging baby boomers and seniors, and their care providers, should be paying as much attention to their oral care as they do to their cholesterol, skin quality, blood pressure and overall fitness,” said CDHA president, Susan Lopez in a news release distributed by the association. “This group faces unique oral health challenges, but with proper care there is absolutely no need for the aging process to be synonymous with tooth loss and related health problems.”

The CDHA is reminding seniors and caregivers to follow simple steps to thwart tooth loss, including regularly seeing a dental professional, who can recommend fluoride and preventive products to strengthen teeth according to the release.

Thank you for the shout out. I checked out the recent post on the going rate per tooth for the Tooth Fairy. I see inflation is galloping ahead of the general economy at 15% per year 🙂
      Best regards
