This summer, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that more than 30 billion iOS apps have been downloaded since the inception of the iTunes App Store at the Worldwide Developer’s Conference. Further, he shared that more than 650,000 iPhone and iPad applications are available for download today to help keep us entertained, organized and more productive.

That number does not even include countless other application hosted by Google Play, Blackberry, Microsoft and others. So, I wanted to take a look at some dental relevant apps that might help make the lives of those in the dental community a little bit better.

Below, I’ve highlighted some apps that can play a part in helping dental students overcome learning obstacles, practicing dentists keep abreast of changes in oral health care and dentistry professionals stay on top of their game.

If you are looking for dental business advice, office management tips and dentistry news regarding new products, events and jobs then the DentistryIQ application is a perfect fit for you. It’s free and available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

The Dictionary of Dentistry app is designed for both iPhone and iPad. It is a robust guide for dental practitioners and dental students – providing more than 4,000 dental definitions, terms and concepts. Illustrative drawings, web links and background compliment the dictionary to provide a thorough companion for many dental professionals. Although not free, at $14.99 it is a pretty good deal for the amount of knowledge packed into it.

The days of soon-to-be dental professionals carrying around stacks of written notecards are numbered. StudyBlue has made notecards digital with a free mobile app hosted in iTunes, Android Market and the Amazon App Store. StudyBlue is determined to help you master your study materials on the go and at your computer. Insert your own photos and content to develop interactive cards that help make learning a little more fun and most of all – convenient.

Are you headed to the ADA Annual Session this October in San Francisco? If so, it might be helpful to download the ADA Annual Session Mobile App available for iPhone, Android and Blackberry devices. It helps you find continuing education opportunities that might be relevant to you, show specials that you will want to take advantage of and best of all – locate the 3M ESPE exhibition booth!
